On 14th February, forty-six singers from our Y7 Choir and Senior Choir travelled to Brian Clarke Academy to take part in this year’s ‘Secondary Vocal Gala Workshop & Concert’. This event has grown over the last several years, building upon the gala vocal workshops put on by Newman College for both our singers and singers from other schools in the borough.
Our large group of singers enjoyed spending their afternoon rehearsing alongside musicians from six other Oldham secondary schools: The Bluecoat School, Crompton House, Hathershaw, Oasis Leesbrook, North Chadderton, and Brian Clarke Academy. They learned three new pieces of vocal music and developed their ensemble singing.
The afternoon of workshops was followed by an evening concert, which featured an individual performance from each school, as well as the Oldham Youth Choir. Our Newman College singers performed ‘Naughty’ from Matilda the Musical. They did so with great confidence, smiles on faces and were absolutely amazing – it could well be the best they’ve ever sung the piece! We were extremely proud of the talent they shared and the song went down a treat with the audience.
A huge well done to all students who gave up their afternoon & evening to take part in this event.
