Catholic life is essentially embedded in every facet of St. John Henry Newman’s Catholic College community. Fr. Joel is a member of The Spiritan Order of Priests and Brothers in the Catholic Church- British Province. He is part of the Just Youth Team which provides Chaplaincy for schools in Manchester and beyond.

Some of the key roles of Fr. Joel in the school community include the celebration of the Holy Eucharist: Year Group Masses, special Liturgical celebrations such as Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas throughout the academic year. He promotes Vocation through his friendly interactions with those who seek to discern their vocation. Through Just Youth, Fr. Joel organizes Retreats for the various year groups in the school.

As the School Chaplain, he promotes the spiritual and pastoral needs of the entire school community. He ensures that every department of the school is visited on Thursdays when he is available. He is visible and approachable around the school to both students and staff, Catholics, other faiths and none. Fr. Joel accompanies both pupils and staff at different stages of their journey through life particularly at challenging times such as sickness, bereavement and other difficult times. He gets to know people individually and uses every opportunity to the best advantage of the school community.

He supports the Headteacher in her role as faith leader in the school and effectively work with Mrs. McNee, the Senior Leadership Team member in charge of Catholic life. Fr. Joel plays a role in the pastoral life of the school community.  He works to foster a cohesive synthesis between faith and life for members of the school community, providing a safe environment for students to share their challenges in living their faith in the contemporary society.
